Lala Lajpat Rai (1865 – 1928) was an Indian nationalist leader and freedom fighter, known as the "Lion of Punjab" (Punjab Kesari).
Freedom struggle
He was a prominent leader of the Indian independence movement and part of the trio Lal-Bal-Pal with Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal.
Death
In 1928 he led a protest against the Simon Commission and was injured in a police baton charge, dying soon after. His death intensified the freedom struggle.
