Maharana Pratap (1540 – 1597) was a Rajput king of Mewar in present-day Rajasthan, celebrated for his long resistance against the Mughal Empire of Akbar.

Battle of Haldighati

In 1576 he fought the Mughal army at the Battle of Haldighati. Though outnumbered, he refused to submit and continued guerrilla warfare from the hills for years.

Loyal horse

His horse Chetak, who carried him to safety in battle, is remembered in folklore.
