Mirza Ghalib

Mirza Ghalib (1797 – 1869) was one of the most celebrated poets of the Urdu and Persian languages in the Indian subcontinent.

Writing during the last years of the Mughal Empire, he composed ghazals of great depth on love, loss and philosophy. His witty, thoughtful verse is still widely quoted.

Life

He lived mostly in Delhi and witnessed the decline of Mughal rule and the events of 1857. His letters are also admired as literature.
