Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun and the third largest in the Solar System. It is an ice giant with a pale blue-green colour.
Features
Uranus is made largely of water, methane and ammonia ices around a rocky core. The methane in its atmosphere gives it its colour. Unusually, it rotates almost on its side.
Discovery
It was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel, the first planet found with a telescope. It has faint rings and many moons.
