In biology, a cell is the smallest structural and functional unit of all living organisms, often called the "building block of life".
Structure
Most cells contain a control centre (the nucleus in complex cells), a jelly-like cytoplasm and an outer membrane. Some organisms are made of a single cell, while others, like humans, have trillions.
Function
Cells carry out the processes of life — taking in nutrients, producing energy, growing and reproducing. Groups of similar cells form tissues and organs.
